Bridges

Bridges

Day 25 of 30 Days of Poetry

A night-time view down the Thames from the Millennium Bridge towards Tower Bridge, visible in the distance. The city lights shine and are reflected from the water
People ask me, "What do you do?"
And I recite some mundane lines
About the thing that pays my bills
But what I do is not who I am

I am a builder of bridges
I span the yawning gaps
Between words and actions
I connect desires to their objects

I reach out with my heart
And meet yours
Above the river
Of our souls
